Pune Station, 30th October 2023: In a welcome development for passengers at Pune Railway Station, affordable drinking water has made a comeback after a prolonged absence. The railway administration has reintroduced water vending machines, offering clean drinking water at a nominal rate of Rs 5 per litre.

About a year ago, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) had initially installed two water vending machines at Pune Railway Station. These machines ceased operation a few months back, causing significant inconvenience to passengers.

However, the recent reinstallation of these machines on platform number 1, inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager Indu Dubey, marks a positive change.

The closure of the water vending machines led to considerable inconvenience for passengers, who were left with limited options. Although drinking water taps were accessible, the surrounding unhygienic conditions and filth significantly compromised their usability, compelling many passengers to resort to purchasing bottled water.

Frustrated by the situation, passengers consistently urged railway authorities to reinstate the facility for affordable water. The matter was actively pursued, even in meetings such as the Divisional Advisory Committee of the Railways, where concerns were highlighted by Nikhil Kachi, a Member of the Committee.

The eventual response from the railway authorities to reactivate the water vending machines has been warmly welcomed by passengers.
