Pune’s Public Transport Goes Cashless: PMPML Introduces QR Code Payments For Passes

Pune, 23rd October 2023: In a move toward modernizing public transport, Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) introduced a cashless payment facility for its monthly passes. Commencing from today, passengers can purchase passes via QR code payments at all 40 pass centers operated by PMPML.

The corporation, which sells an average of 60,000 passes each month and records a monthly income of Rs 5 crore from pass sales, took this initiative under the leadership of Sachindra Pratap Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of PMPML. The cashless system was launched at Pune Municipal building Pass Center in the presence of Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar and other dignitaries.

How to Use the Cashless Facility
1) Passengers request a QR code from the employee at the pass center.
2) The QR code is scanned to make an online payment.
3) Upon successful payment, a pass is issued by the employee at the center.
The event was attended by a host of officials, including Pune Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne, PMPML Joint Managing Director Nitin Narvekar, and Regional Head of Central Bank of India Asha Kotstane, among others.

“The new generation is using cashless facilities more. They will definitely benefit from the cashless facility introduced by PMPML,” said Vikram Kumar, Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation.

Sachindra Pratap Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of PMPML, urged commuters to embrace the new facility. “Cashless transactions not only facilitate the work but also help speed up the process,” he noted.

The introduction of the cashless system is viewed as a significant step toward encouraging digital transactions and streamlining the payment process, thereby improving the overall experience for PMPML’s sizable commuter base.
