Pune: Newly Established Cell to Address Challenges Faced by Freedom Fighters and Soldiers
Pimpri, 17th October 2023: In a significant step towards addressing the concerns and difficulties faced by freedom fighters, families of martyrs, veterans, and current servicemen, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has set up a dedicated cell. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive framework for supporting those who have served the nation and their families within the municipality’s limits.
A committee consisting of 11 members has been appointed to oversee the operations of this newly established cell. The committee is chaired by Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate, while Deputy Commissioner of the Sports Department, Mininath Dandavate, will serve as the chamber’s chairman.
Within the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits, approximately 20 independence soldiers, 9 families of martyrs, and around 1500 ex and current servicemen reside. Many active-duty soldiers also have their families living within the municipality’s jurisdiction.
Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh recognized the need for a separate cell to address the multifaceted challenges faced by freedom fighters, martyrs’ families, and ex-servicemen. The 11-member committee has been tasked with overseeing the various responsibilities of this cell.
The primary functions of this dedicated cell include:
1. Accepting complaint applications at the municipal headquarters level and at the 8 zonal office locations on a monthly basis.
2. Reviewing and addressing these complaints promptly, focusing on problem-solving.
3. Coordinating and planning committee meetings to discuss potential solutions.
4. Conducting quarterly reviews of pending cases to ensure efficient resolution.
Commissioner Singh has also directed the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer and the Accounts Department to hold monthly meetings with relevant department heads. The purpose of these meetings is to allocate provisions in the budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025 specifically dedicated to implementing various schemes for freedom fighters, martyrs, and ex and current servicemen under a separate account head.
