Asian Games – India Shines at Asian Games 2023 with Historic 107-Medal Tally

Hangzhou, 8th October 2023 – The Asian Games 2023 concluded today, with China emerging as the undisputed leader, securing the top spot with an impressive total of 2001 gold medals and 382 medals in total. India showcased its sporting prowess, securing the fourth position in the overall standings, achieving its best-ever medal tally of 107, including 28 gold medals.

 

The final standings saw China in the first position, followed by Japan in second place, and Korea in third place. India’s performance was celebrated by Randhir Singh, who declared the 19th Asian Games officially closed. Singh praised China for being an outstanding hosts and emphasized how the power of sport and the Asian Games unites people from all walks of life.

 

In a cricket final match yesterday, India clinched the gold medal in the Asian Games Men’s Cricket Tournament due to their higher rankings in T20 cricket compared to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, the match had to be called off due to rain, leading to India’s victory.

 

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his happiness and congratulations to all the participants. He commended their determination, relentless spirit, and hard work, applauding India’s stellar performance in the Asian Games.

 

Yogeshwar Dutt, who won the bronze medal in wrestling at the 2012 London Olympics, praised Indian athletes for making history at the Asian Games. He noted that this was the first time India crossed the 100-medal mark, surpassing the previous record of 70 medals. Dutt encouraged Indian athletes to set their sights on winning 15 medals in the upcoming Olympics, fulfilling Prime Minister Modi’s vision.

 

In a show of appreciation for her outstanding performance in hockey, Odisha Chief Minister Navin Patnaik announced a cash award of 50 lakh rupees for hockey star Deep Grace Ekka. This gesture recognizes Ekka’s exceptional contributions to the sport and her dedication to representing India on the international stage.
