Pune, 6th October 2023: The first overhead L-Girder for Pune Metro Line 3 was successfully lifted and installed today at the upcoming PMR 10 station, located in front of Balewadi Stadium. The 19-meter girder was fabricated at a casting yard in Tathawade and marks a crucial step in the construction of the metro line connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar.

The Pune Metro Line 3 project is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative led by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). Tata Group has formed a special purpose company, Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd., to oversee the project’s implementation.

The Station Element Gantry (SLG1), a key piece of infrastructure, was responsible for the precise lifting and installation of the girder. Girders serve as the backbone of the metro’s elevated structure, supporting the viaduct on which the rails will be laid. “The successful installation of the first girder is a significant milestone for Pune Metro Line 3, bringing us one step closer to providing a modern and efficient transportation system for Pune’s residents,” said Mr. Alok Kapoor, CEO of Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd.

Spanning approximately 23 km, Pune Metro Line 3 is an elevated metro project that aims to connect the IT hub of Hinjawadi to the central business district of Shivajinagar. The project is a collaboration between Tata Group’s TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (TUTPL) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH. It will be developed and operated under a Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) for a concession period of 35 years, including the construction phase.
