With Average Of 105.2 Decibels, Pune Records Highest Noise Levels During Immersion Procession

Pune 29th Sept 2023: The youngsters of the city were dancing to the tunes of traditional dhol-tasha and DJ system during an immersion procession organised to bid adieu Ganesh festival for this year. However, the noise levels recorded during this period have broken all the barriers set by the Pollution Control Board. According to the noise pollution recorded by the College of Engineering Pune (COEP) team an average of 105.2 decibels noise level was recorded across Pune city during the visarjan procession.

The highest noise level was recorded at Khanduji Baba Chowk at 8 pm on September 28. The COEP team has monitored noise levels at ten locations in the city and the noise pollution was recorded using spatio-temporal and scientific technique. An average of 107.2 decibels noise level was recorded at Kunte Chowk on Laxmi Road while 106.3 decibels noise level was recorded at Ganpati Chowk, 106 decibels recorded at Limbraj Chowk, 103.1 decibels at Umbrya chowk, 100.9 decibels at Belbaug Chowk, 100 Decibels at Tilak Chowk, 99.9 decibels at Holkar Chowk, 99.8 decibels at Gokhale Chowk, 96.5 decibels at Shedge Vithoba Chowk and 90.2 decibels was recorded at Khanduji Baba chowk on Laxmi Road.

According to the Pollution Control Board (PCB), the maximum noise level in the industrial areas is allowed upto 75 decibels between 6 am and 10 pm and 70 decibels between 10 pm and 6 am. Similarly, for business areas noise levels upto 65 decibels is allowed during the day time and 55 decibels at night after 10 pm. In residential areas, the noise level is allowed upto 55 decibels during day and 45 decibels during night while in silence zone, 50 decibels noise is allowed during day and 40 decibels at night.

In Pune, last year the average noise level was recorded 105.2 decibels which was the highest noise level recorded during the immersion procession in the city in the last 20 years and same has been repeated this year as well.
