Pune Police Arrests Agent For Duping Women By Sending Them Abroad On Pretext Of Job, Women Were Rescued By MEA From Saudi Arabia

Pune 21st September 2023: The Social Security Cell of Pune City Police has arrested an agent from Mumbai for allegedly duping women from the city by sending them abroad on pretext of job. The accused identified as Yahya was arrested from Mumbai after three women who were recently rescued by the Maharashtra State Women Commission with the help of External Affairs Ministry from Saudi Arabia opened up about the matter.

The women were promised a good salary to work as domestic help in Saudi Arabia by the accused and they were sent on tourist visas. However, the women alleged that they were not paid the promised salary and they were physically assaulted and mentally tortured by the employer when they wished to return to India. The women contacted the agent to return but he also demanded money from them.

The victims finally reached out to the Maharashtra State Women Commission for help and they were rescued by the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia and brought back to India. It was revealed that the agent was paid a heavy amount by the employers in Saudi Arabia to send these women for work. Four women including three from Pune and one from Chennai were rescued in the matter. Two separate cases were registered at Market Yard Police Station of the city under sections 370, 420, 385, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the matter. The police have also booked other people in the case who were involved in the crime. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
