Pune 20th Sept 2023: The Deputy Commissioner of the traffic department of the city police Vijay Magar has sent a clear message to the traffic police by suspending three traffic personnel in the city who were found collecting fines from the commuters in a group despite heavy traffic jams in the area. The action was taken after the DCP himself while travelling in the area noticed them standing in a group despite the control room informing them about the traffic jam.

The names of the suspended constables are Jitendra Dattatray Bhagwat, Jayshing Yashwant Borane and Gorakh Maruti Shinde (all from the Deccan Traffic Department). This action comes in response to an incident that occurred on Saturday on the Jangli Maharaj Road in Pune when the Deputy Commissioner of the traffic department Vijay Magar was travelling from the road. According to officials, there was a traffic jam on the road and vehicles were stuck on both sides. The traffic police were expected to immediately take action to clear the congestion and manage the traffic since the control room was also informed about the situation.

Many vehicles were parked on the road for which the towing vehicles were also called. During the same time, as the DCP’s vechicle moved forward towards Law College Road, he noticed three constables standing in a group to recover fines from commuters. They were expected to move to JM road to manage traffic congestion after getting instructions from the control room but they did not move. Following this, the DCP issued an order to suspend the three constables for negligence in duty.

The traffic personnel are expected to focus more on ensuring smooth movement of traffic in the city and should clear the traffic jam on city roads instead of focusing more on the collection of fines in groups. They are not expected to be deployed in groups and collect fines, said officials. The immediate suspension of these constables is a clear message that indiscipline and misconduct will not be tolerated. The authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and orderly flow of traffic on the city’s roads, said officials.
