Safety Of Construction Workers A Major Concern In Pune, 119 Died In Last 5 Years
Pune 20th Sept 2023: The safety of labourers working at the construction sites in Pune city has come up as a major concern as the number of fatal accidents is on a rise. According to officials, a total of 119 labourers have died in different parts of the city at the construction sites due to accidents.
The city police have booked contractors in many of these cases for not providing necessary safety gears to the workers while carrying out the construction work. In some cases, it has come to light that necessary precautions needed before starting the construction were not taken which caused the accident. The police said that they register cases against the concerned builders and contractors wherever they find that the necessary safety gears are not provided to the workers leading to the fatal accident.
This year, a total of 32 workers have died in different accidents reported at the construction sites in the city. The officials of the labour commission say that they conduct regular workshops with the concerned stakeholders on the safety of laborers at the construction sites to avoid such accidents.
