Pune University Issues Show Cause Notices to 100 Colleges for Not Completing NAAC Assessment
Pune, 18th September 2023: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has issued show cause notices to around 100 colleges in Pune, Ahmednagar, and Nashik districts for not completing the NAAC assessment process. The university has warned that these colleges may face action if they do not comply with the government’s directives.
Higher education institutions in India are required to undergo NAAC assessment, which is a quality assurance process conducted by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The NAAC assessment helps to identify the strengths and weaknesses of colleges and universities, and provides them with recommendations for improvement.
Despite repeated instructions from the Higher Education Department, many colleges in Maharashtra have not completed the NAAC assessment process. This has prompted the government to order universities to take action against such colleges.
In a recent review meeting, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil instructed vice-chancellors to issue show cause notices to colleges that have not undergone NAAC assessment or re-evaluation.
Against this backdrop, Savitribai Phule Pune University has issued show cause notices to nearly 100 colleges in Pune, Ahmednagar, and Nashik districts. Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr. Parag Kalkar said that the colleges had to fill the NAAC assessment information in the university system.
However, 40 to 42 colleges have not done NAAC assessment even once, while more than 50 colleges have not completed the re-evaluation process.
Dr. Kalkar added that the university will publish a list of colleges that have not received NAAC assessment or re-evaluation on its website, as per the government’s directives. The university will also take a decision regarding the action to be taken against these colleges.
