Pune, 16th September 2023: Dr. Pradeep Kurulkar, the Director of Research and Development Establishment (Engineers) (R&DE) in Pune, which is part of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), has been accused of transmitting sensitive information to a Pakistani spy. Today, the court has rejected the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad’s (ATS) request to administer polygraph and voice analysis tests to Dr. Kurulkar.

The order was given by Additional Sessions Judge S. B. Kachare. The court’s ruling following a hearing on the ATS’s application. The ATS had sought the court’s permission to conduct polygraph and voice analysis tests on Dr. Kurulkar due to his alleged non-cooperation with the investigation.

During the hearing, the court questioned ATS officials about the purpose and significance of the voice analysis test, as well as whether it had been conducted in previous cases. However, the ATS officials were unable to provide sufficient information to satisfy the court’s inquiries.

Consequently, the court requested clarification on these matters before proceeding with the trial. Dr. Kurulkar had already declined to undergo both the polygraph and voice analysis tests.

It is worth noting that while a polygraph test requires the consent of the accused, the voice analysis test does not necessitate such permission.

Given Dr. Kurulkar’s lack of cooperation with the ongoing investigation, Special Public Prosecutor Vijay Fargade argued that the court should grant permission for the voice analysis test to be conducted as part of the inquiry.
