Pune: Prisoner Lodged At Yerawada Central Prison Dies During Treatment At Hospital

Pune 13th Sept 2023: A prisoner lodged in Yerwada Central Jail under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) who was undergoing treatment at the Sassoon General Hospital died in the wee hours on Wednesday. He was admitted to the hospital on September 10 due to a blood pressure issue.

According to jail authorities, the prisoner identified as Balasaheb Jaywant Khedekar (59) was lodged in the jail following a case registered against him at Loni Kalbhor Police Station on murder charges and other relevant sections. The stringent sections under MCOCA were also imposed against him and he was inside the Yerawada central prison since August 2021, said officials.

He was earlier admitted to the Sassoon Hospital between January and February this year and was again admitted due to high blood pressure and related problems on September 10. He was a patient of diabetes as well, said officials. At around 3:30 am on Wednesday the doctors at the hospital declared him dead. The body was sent to the postmortem and the prisoner’s family was also informed about his demise, said the jail officials.
