Kondhwa, 13th September 2023: The Building and Construction Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recently initiated a comprehensive demolition drive aimed at addressing the proliferation of illegal structures along Salunke Vihar Road, NIBM Road, and Kausarbaug Road.

In an effort to restore order and compliance with regulations, the PMC meticulously razed any unauthorized structures encroaching upon the front and side margins of these roads.

The demolition drive, however, has not been without controversy. Dr. Neha Rai, whose physiotherapy clinic is located in Natasha Enclave, witnessed her clinic area being affected by the demolition. Dr. Rai explained, “There was a prior incident during the monsoon season when a tree branch fell, posing a significant risk to life. To ensure the safety of my patients and myself, I had erected a temporary awning structure. Today’s actions might have been preventable.”

Dr. Hina Khan, a cosmetic surgeon operating a clinic at Natasha Enclave on NIBM Road, expressed frustration with the PMC’s approach. She claimed that PMC staff carried out demolitions without due consideration, even when the necessary documents had been provided.

Dr. Khan lamented what she perceived as an injustice to the medical community, emphasizing their role in serving people during challenging times.

A PMC official stated that the demolition drive would continue along NIBM Road, Kausarbaug, and Salunke Vihar Road, with the primary objective being the removal of all unauthorized structures.

Residents of the affected areas had long been voicing concerns about various establishments erecting illegal structures that caused disruptions and inconveniences to the local population.
