Pune: MLA Siddharth Shirole Takes Action To Alleviate Traffic Jams At University Chowk
Shivajinagar, 12th September 2023: To address the persistent issue of traffic congestion at University Chowk, MLA Siddharth Shirole convened a crucial meeting on September 11th, bringing together key department officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Pune City Traffic Police, Pune Municipal Corporation’s Road Department, and Tata Company. The objective of the meeting was to find effective solutions to the traffic challenges in the area, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming metro flyover construction project.
One of the major decisions made during the meeting was to provide an alternative route for motorists before commencing work on the planned metro flyover at University Chowk. This strategic move aims to mitigate potential traffic disruptions caused by the construction. Additionally, the meeting emphasized the importance of traffic planning tailored to accommodate the varying crowd dynamics in the area.
PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal, DCP (Traffic Police) Vijayakumar Magar, Executive Engineer of Pune Municipal Road Department Dinkar Gojare, and Project Director of Tata Company, Akshay Sharma, were among the prominent officials who attended the discussion.
To expedite the construction process, it was agreed that the traffic police would permit the construction of a bridge ramp on the Aundh side once the work on the pillars, currently in progress on the Baner side of the intersection, is completed. This crucial step is scheduled to commence after October 15th. Furthermore, municipal authorities pledged to accelerate the road-widening efforts in the area.
MLA Siddharth Shirole also announced plans to create a dedicated lane for two-wheelers, facilitating their travel from the university premises to Range Hills. This comprehensive approach to traffic management aims to provide relief to commuters and enhance the flow of traffic in the University Chowk area.
