Pune: Hinjawadi Boy Kidnapped For Rs 30 Lakh Ransom Rescued In Saswad, Three Persons Arrested

Pimpri Chinchwad, 12th September 2023: In a swift and heroic operation, the Pimpri Chinchwad Police and Saswad police station (Pune rural police) successfully rescued a kidnapped 14-year-old boy and arrested three individuals who had abducted him. The daring rescue came after a frantic search and an extortion demand of Rs 30 lakhs.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tejas Gyanoba Lokhande (21), Arjun Suresh Rathod (19), both residents of Marunjigaon, and Vikas Sanjay Maske (23) of Shivarwasti, Bhumkar Chowk, Wakad.

The incident came to light when the Crime Branch Unit Four head constable Mohammad Ghaus Nadaf received information about the kidnapping of the 14-year-old son of a scrap dealer in Tathwade around 7 am today. The Pimpri Chinchwad police promptly formed several teams to locate the abducted child.

During their investigation, the police discovered CCTV footage showing the child being kidnapped in a car. Simultaneously, the uncle of the kidnapped boy received a chilling call from an unknown caller, demanding a ransom of Rs 30 lakhs, and threatening harm to the child if the ransom wasn’t paid.

The Pimpri Chinchwad police swiftly analyzed the phone used to make the call, enabling them to trace the suspects’ location. They alerted the Saswad police and Local Crime Branch of Pune rural police, informing them that the suspects were headed toward Saswad from Tathwade. The Saswad police acted promptly, setting up a blockade (nakabandi).

In a critical moment, the Saswad police intercepted a suspicious vehicle carrying the three suspects and rescued the kidnapped boy. A search of the vehicle revealed three mobile phones, a pellet pistol, a chopper, a saw, a hammer, said DCP (Crime) Swapna Gore of Pimpri Chinchwad Police.

She added, “The investigation revealed that the suspects, desperate for funds to start a hotel business, had targeted the boy due to his father’s involvement in the scrap business, assuming they could secure a significant ransom. However, the police acted swiftly, rescuing the child just two and a half hours after the abduction.”

The operation’s success was attributed to the coordinated efforts of various police units. The team included ACP Satish Mane, Vishal Hire, Senior Police Inspector Shankar Awtade,Senior Police Inspector Deepak Shinde, API Ambarish Deshmukh, API Siddhanath Babar, PSI Ganesh Raikar, ASI Narayan Jadhav, Sanjay Gaware, Dada Pawar, Head Constable Pravin Dale, Tushar Shete, Mohammad Ghaus Nadaf, Rohidas Ade, Police Naik Vasudev Munde, Suresh Jaybhaye, Constables Prashant Said, Sukhdev Gawande, Technical Analysis Division’s Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Tungar, API Sagar Panmand, Head Constable Nagesh Mali and Popat Hulge.
