Pune 12th Sept 2023: The incidents of breakdowns of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses is increasing every month as the transport body has reported 30% rise in the case in August compared to July month. According to official data, a total of 1,661 breakdowns were reported in August compared to 1,283 breakdowns reported in July this year.

The total breakdowns reported in August include 1,073 buses owned by the contractors while 588 buses owned by PMPML. A total of 813 breakdowns of buses owned by contractors were reported in July while 470 buses were owned by PMPML. The data reveals that the number of breakdowns reported with the buses owned by contractors is more compared to buses owned by PMPML.

The transport body has taken several steps in the past to reduce the number of breakdowns but there seems to be no impact on the buses owned by contractors. Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) last month instructed the officials to oversee the maintenance of buses owned by contractors. A dedicated squad was tasked to visit the maintenance depots of contractors to ensure that these buses also follow all the norms that are being followed by the PMPML owned buses.

According to the official data, the highest number of breakdowns were reported in May this year when 1,173 incidents of breakdowns of buses owned by contractors were reported while 728 breakdowns were reported with PMPML owned buses. The number has been above 1,500 since April except July this year.
