Pune: Youth Suffers Neck Injury In Accidental Pistol Firing In Khadakwasla Area
Pune, 9th September 2023: In a distressing incident, a young man was injured when a bullet accidentally discharged from an illegally purchased pistol in the Khadakwasla area. Uttamnagar police have arrested an individual for illegal possession of the firearm. The incident occurred in Sangrun village located near the Khadakwasla dam backwater.
The victim, identified as Abhay Chhagan Waikar (22 years old), sustained serious injuries in the mishap. Avishkar alias Monya Tukaram Dhanwade (19 years old, residing in Sangrun village) has been named in the case and is under arrest. The incident was reported to Uttamnagar police station by Police Constable Anand Gholap.
Abhay Waikar and Avishkar Dhanwade were friends and residents of Sangrun village in the Khadakwasla area. Waikar had obtained an illegal, country-made pistol, which he was showing to Dhanwade when the unfortunate incident occurred. While handling the firearm, Dhanwade inadvertently pulled the trigger, causing a bullet to strike Waikar’s neck. Waikar suffered serious injuries and was promptly admitted to a private hospital in the Erandwane area. Assistant Police Inspector Pawar is leading the investigation.
It has been revealed that Abhay Waikar had acquired the country-made pistol from Bihar. He is currently receiving medical treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital. The authorities are conducting an inquiry into the reasons behind Waikar carrying the illegal firearm, including seeking information about the source from which he obtained it.
Senior Police Inspector Kiran Balwadkar of Uttamnagar Police Station confirmed that the incident occurred due to an accidental discharge while handling the pistol.
