MSEDCL Uncover Electricity Theft Worth Rs 2.19 Crore In A Day In Pune Division, 1,727 Cases Reported  Lock-up, Jail

Pune 8th Sept 2023: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation Limited (MSEDCL) have managed to catch electricity theft at 1,727 places in Pune division through the electricity theft of Rs 2,19,78,000 was recovered. The action was taken under a social drive conducted by the officials on September 2.

 

According to MSEDCL, the special drive was conducted in Pune, Solapur, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur districts on Saturday. The officials were instructed to carry out a special drive to check electricity at least once in a month. Accordingly, the drive was organised under which the MSEDCL teams checked a total of 19,900 connections in a day in the division including commercial, domestic, industrial and agriculture connections.

 

A total of 838 cases of electricity theft were reported in a day from Pune district during this special drive through which an electricity theft worth Rs 1,28,58,000 was recovered while 166 cases were reported from Satara (electricity theft worth Rs 14.76 Lakh), 319 cases from Solapur (electricity theft worth Rs 25.49 lakh), 154 cases from Kolhapur (electricity theft worth Rs 28.79 lakh) and 230 cases from Sangli (electricity theft worth Rs 22.16 lakh) were reported.

“Action is also being taken against the consumers who have reconnected their power supply on their own which was disconnected due to non-payment. Consumers who have taken supply from other power supplies due to disconnection of their power supply are also being targetted under this special drive. In cases of electricity theft, those who have not paid the full amount of the bill, along with a punitive sum, are also subject to legal action under section 135” said officials.
