Pune, 29th August 2023: A senior assistant in the Examination Department of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) was suspended today for taking money from a student for providing his marksheet.

The incident took place on August 26, when Pratham Bhandari went to the Examination Department to collect his BA (third year) marksheet. Dr. Sanjay Sampatrao Nevse, the senior assistant, demanded Rs 4,000 from Pratham for the marksheet.

The next day, Pratham went to the department with his father and Nevse gave him the marksheet after taking Rs 3,000.

ABVP activists who were present at the department caught Nevse red-handed and exposed him. Nevse then took out the money from his pocket and claimed that he had been given the money by the student.

A video of the incident went viral on social media, causing a public outcry.
In an order issued on August 29, SPPU Registrar Dr. Praful Pawar said that Nevse had indulged in misappropriation for financial gains and his behavior was unbecoming of a SPPU employee. He was therefore suspended from service with immediate effect.

The suspension order stated that Nevse would be entitled to a hearing before a disciplinary committee, which would decide on the future course of action.

The incident has raised questions about the integrity of the SPPU Examination Department and the need for greater transparency in the process of issuing marksheets.
