Pune 28th August 2023: The Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Purandar Haveli Constituency Sanjay Jagtap announced that the testing of joint water supply scheme for Fursungi and Uruli Devachi was successfully completed on Sunday afternoon and the water supply scheme is almost completed. He also said that the first phase to end the wait of citizens of these areas for regular drinking water supply is over. Jagtap further said that the work for the next phase of the project will be completed soon and the regular water supply will start in the area.

Jagtap appreciated local MP Supriya Sule for getting approval to lay pipeline from defence premises for the scheme. The pipeline crosses two railway lines and necessary approvals from the railway officials were taken for it with constant follow up. The approval for the joint water supply scheme was granted in 2013 and Rs 75.65 Crore were approved for the project, the project later received administrative approval in 2016 but it remained incomplete.

It may be noted that Uruli Devachi and Fursungi have been suffering with the water crisis for a long time. The villagers were merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation recently but the water problem continued and the local leaders continued to blame each other for failure. The villagers have been dependent on water tankers and they have been demanding for basic facilities for a long time.

The state government earlier this year again announced to dermge the two villages from the municipal corporation and announced to form a separate municipal council. However, when a petition was filed in the High Court the government informed that the final notification to demerge the villages from Pune Municipal Corporation is yet to be released.
