Pune: Lack of Response Prompts Extension Proposal for Gunthewari Constructions Regularization
Pune, 23rd August 2023: In the absence of a noteworthy response regarding the regularization of constructions in Gunthewari land, the construction department has proactively submitted a proposal to the municipal commissioner’s office for a further extension of the deadline.
The final decision regarding this extension will be contingent upon the Commissioner’s endorsement. Notably, various pockets within the city have witnessed modest constructions spanning half guntha, one guntha, and two guntha plots. The Pune municipal corporation’s construction department maintains records indicating that approximately 70 thousand such cases exist.
The Maharashtra state government had previously taken a stance to regularize constructions within the Gunthewari land, a process which commenced in 2021. However, owing to document completion, associated fees, and intricate regulations, the anticipated enthusiastic response towards the regularization of these constructions has yet to manifest. A total of 856 applications were duly filed with the PMC for Gunthewari regularization. Among these, a mere 21 cases have got approval, while 547 have been regrettably declined. Concurrently, 289 cases are currently in the process of review and approval.
In a parallel development, the municipal administration had initially extended the deadline for this scheme up to July 31st, 2023. As this cutoff date elapsed, political parties advocated for a renewed extension to facilitate the regularization of Gunthewari constructions. Consequently, the application window has been prolonged by an additional four months, allowing citizens to submit applications until December 31st. This proposal for an extension has been duly presented to the Commissioner’s office for consideration.
