Pune – India’s famous ‘Everest-twins’ Nungshi and Tashi Malik are in Pune to talk to the troops and families of Southern Command about girl empowerment and supporting their dreams. The only children of their parents, they said that it was only because of full support from parents that they could dream big and follow their passion for mountaineering. And because they followed their passion, the twin sisters have already made nearly a dozen World Records in a sport considered most dangerous and both physically and mentally challenging.

The twins have roots in a village in Haryana state but breaking gender stereotypes they climbed Mt Everest in May 2013 at barely 21 years of age becoming world’s first female twins to do so. Soon there-after they scaled highest peaks in all seven continents and even skied to North and South Poles making Six Guinness World Records including youngest to complete the Explorers Grand Slam and also the first South Asians. Recently in Dec 2016 they became first female twins to scale MT Cook, New Zealand’s highest peak.

The twins sisters are brand ambassadors of beti bachao campaign and adventure tourism of Uttarakhand state. Last year they receive Tenzing Norgay national Adventure Award from the President of India and Leif Erikson Young Explorer Award president of Iceland.

Nungshi Tashi are keen to develop adventure tourism in India and to empower girls through outdoors. For this purpose they have started Nungshi Tashi Foundation in Dehradun.

Apart from talk at the Southern Command, they also delivered motivation talks at the College of Military Engineering and Army Institute of Technology. They emphasised the need for achieving excellence in whatever we do and that usually happens only when we follow our passion.
