Katraj, 8th August 2023: Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar today conducted an inspection of the stalled Katraj-Kondhwa road due to pending land acquisition, accompanied by officials from various departments. Over the next four to five days, meetings will be arranged with the respective landowners to facilitate the takeover of land falling within a 50-meter jurisdiction.

The commissioner emphasized that once this process is complete, actual construction work will commence, instilling a sense of confidence among local residents regarding the widening of the Katraj-Kondhwa road.

His inspection began at Rajas Society Chowk and covered significant locations such as Mauli Nagar Chowk and Shatrunjay Mandir Chowk.

Vikas Dhakane, Additional Municipal Commissioner, said, “Following the Commissioner’s inspection, a positive momentum has been established, setting the stage for accelerated road construction upon site possession. Discussions are underway with landowners within the 50-meter jurisdiction to reach a resolution in the coming days. Concurrently, a tender process is being initiated to promptly remove and relocate the electricity poles obstructing the road.”

The Commissioner issued directives to relevant officials to expedite the project by acquiring the land through either cash payments or Transfer of Development Rights (TDR).

City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, Head of the Road Department VG Kulkarni, former MLA Yogesh Tilekar, former Corporator Prakash Kadam, Pratik Kadam, Venkoji Khopde, Rajabhau Kadam, Mahesh Dhoot, as well as citizens, were present during the inspection.

The first phase of the transfer has been successfully concluded, with the remaining two phases slated for completion shortly. The three-month project has been awarded to a contractor. The Maharashtra state government has allocated Rs 200 crores, and an additional Rs 80 crores from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will contribute to the total budget of Rs 280 crores. This fund will facilitate the land acquisition process for a 50-meter stretch of road, rather than the initially planned 84 meters. The commissioner clarified that the project is expected to be finalized by March 2024.
