Central Railway Implements Robust Safety Measures To Ensure Monsoon Travel Security On Pune-Mumbai Route

Pune, 1st August 2923: Central Railway (CR) has taken extensive measures to prioritize passenger and train safety during the challenging monsoon season.

Dr Ramdas Bhise, Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) and PRO Pune Railways, has outlined the initiatives aimed at addressing critical areas, including ghat sections, tunnel portals, and vulnerable spots. To mitigate the risks of rockfall and landslides, the installation of rockfall barriers, boulder netting, and solid fencing has been successfully completed.

Moreover, the fortification of vulnerable areas has been bolstered through the strengthening of structures like steel girders and gabion walls. Micro pilling has also been employed to stabilize railway tracks, ensuring a safe journey for passengers.

To enhance surveillance capabilities, strategically placed CCTVs have been set up. Furthermore, a dedicated team of 28 patrol persons equipped with GPS technology, along with 71 watchmen, ensure vigilant on-ground security. Extensive cleaning measures have been carried out, encompassing 21.9 kilometers of yard drain, 77.75 kilometers of track drain, and 19.85 kilometers of catch water drain.

Identifying potential areas of concern, 25 vulnerable spots along the Pune to Mumbai route have been meticulously mapped. These vulnerable areas include deep cuttings, locations prone to boulder falls, flood-prone regions, and bridges with inadequate waterways.
