Pune, 1st August 2023: In an auspicious event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially inaugurated Phase 1 of Maha Metro and unveiled two new Pune Metro lines, both open for public use. The ceremony took place virtually at the Shivaji Nagar Police headquarters, marking a significant milestone in Pune’s public transportation system.
The extended metro services now provide seamless connectivity between Phugewadi and Civil Court, as well as Ruby Hall and Garware College. The new routes are set to greatly alleviate travel time between Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, offering a much-needed respite to daily commuters. With the trains operating at a frequency of 10 minutes, the new lines promise to cater to office-goers and college students who previously endured lengthy commutes.
The Phugewadi to Civil Court stretch encompasses multiple stations, including Sant Tukaram Nagar, Bhosari, Nashik Phata, Kasarwadi, Phugewadi, Dapodi, Bopodi, Khadki, Range Hill, Range Hill Depot, and Shivaji Nagar, culminating at Civil Court. On the other hand, the Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic Metro route features six stations, each inspired by the legendary figure, Shivaji Maharaj, namely Deccan, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Park, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Shivajinagar District Court, Regional Transport Office (RTO), and Pune Railway Station.
In a bid to encourage ridership, Maha-Metro has introduced enticing ticket pricing options. Students and weekend commuters can avail a 30 percent discount, while metro card holders will benefit from a 10 percent reduction in fares. The fares for different journeys range from Rs 10 to Rs 35. For instance, traveling from PCMC to Civil Court or Vanaz to Ruby Hall will cost Rs 35, while the fare from PCMC to Ruby Hall is Rs 30.
Booking Pune Metro tickets has never been easier, as passengers can opt for various payment methods such as cash, credit/debit cards, digital wallets, and even WhatsApp. Tickets will be readily available at ticket windows and vending machines for added convenience.
