New Delhi, 31st July 2023: A bizarre incident occurred on Monday morning when a woman passenger, Wasifa Jan, who was scheduled to board a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Srinagar, found herself in Pune instead. The mix-up happened as she somehow boarded a Pune-bound SpiceJet flight, with neither the passenger nor the airline realizing the mistake until they landed in Pune.

Upon discovering the error, SpiceJet promptly flew her back to Delhi on an IndiGo flight. Subsequently, the airline arranged for her travel to Srinagar on a SpiceJet flight on the same day.

A spokesperson from SpiceJet issued an apology, expressing regret for the inconvenience caused to the passenger and assuring that they had personally reached out to her to offer apologies and arrange for her timely travel to Srinagar.

The incident raised concerns among aviation officials, as this is not the first time such a mix-up has occurred. A similar incident happened earlier in the year when a passenger booked on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Patna accidentally boarded a flight to Udaipur instead. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation had sought a report from IndiGo in that particular case.

Airlines have implemented multiple checks to prevent such lapses, including scanning boarding cards at the terminal during boarding, whether passengers use coaches or aerobridges. Despite these measures, incidents like these continue to raise questions about the effectiveness of the existing safety protocols.

Meanwhile, Wasifa Jan’s travel agent took to Twitter to tag the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and express their concern over the mix-up.
