Pune 31st July 2023: The state government has issued show cause notices to the two renowned hospitals of the city for flouting provisions of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MPJAY). According to reports, the officials at DY Patil Hospital and Bharti Hospital in Pune were demanding money from the patients and were asking them to get the medicines from outside despite knowing that the MPJAY scheme is cashless and the patients cannot be asked money by the hospitals.

After verifying the complaints received from the patients and their relatives, the payment for these hospitals under the scheme has been suspended by the government until the complaints are resolved and they have been sent show cause notices. A detailed investigation will be conducted into the matter and only after that the hospitals will start getting payments.

According to the rule, the hospitals empanelled for the scheme cannot ask money from patients or their relatives. The state government earlier this week increased the benefit of the MPJAY scheme from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and it was made available for all the ration card holders.
