Pune Reports Highest Cases of Conjunctivitis In Maharashtra, Health Department On Alert

Pune 31st July 2023: As the health department in Maharashtra has issued a warning to the districts to heighten their surveillance for Conjunctivitis cases, Pune is reported to be the most affected districts in the state. According to the official report, a total of over 40,000 cases of Conjunctivitis have been reported in Maharashtra including 8,195 cases reported from Pune district alone followed by Buldhana with 6,693 cases.

The authorities in Pune have been on alert and have started extensive screening. Screening is also conducted at schools to find out cases among children. According to reports, over 1,000 such cases have been reported alone in Pimpri Chinchwad in the last week. Earlier a school in Bhosari reported 65 cases in a day.

The surge in Pune was mainly due to an outbreak in the temple town of Alandi. In the past week, the district administration recorded over 2,500 cases of conjunctivitis from Alandi and two neighboring villages in Khed taluka.

As the screening process continues, the health department reported an additional 2,000 new cases over the weekend. Moreover, screening in schools also uncovered more cases.
