Pune, 28th July 2023: Pune witnessed an unfortunate incident of quarrel among civic officials during a recent visit by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat.

The cause of the VVIP visit was the funeral of former RSS office-bearer, Madandas Devi, which took place at the Vaikunth Crematorium. Shah and Bhagwat were present to pay their last respects. However, tensions arose when two civic officials engaged in a minor argument. The situation escalated when a Deputy Engineer resorted to violence and attacked a senior officer with a stick, accompanied by verbal abuse.

The jurisdiction of the Vaikunth Crematorium falls under the Vishrambaugwada Ward Office. The senior officer had issued instructions to the Deputy Engineer regarding the cleanup and maintenance of the area due to the presence of VIPs. This directive apparently angered the Deputy Engineer, leading to the unfortunate altercation.

As of now, the senior officer has not filed a formal complaint with the police, fearing negative publicity for the civic body. Nonetheless, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has taken the incident seriously. He promptly requested a report on the matter from Deputy Municipal Commissioner Sakpal. It is likely that the civic chief will suspend the Deputy Engineer for his aggressive actions towards a fellow officer. The incident during the VVIP visit has left many surprised and concerned.

The cremation event saw the attendance of several prominent figures, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat, and other high-ranking officials and BJP leaders who came to pay their respects to the departed leader, Madandas Devi.
