Pune: Renowned Anesthesiologist Arrested By NIA in Alleged ISIS Link, Check All Details Here
Pune, 27th July 2023: In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Dr. Adnanali Sarkar (43), a reputed anesthesiologist associated with esteemed hospitals in Pune, in connection with the ISIS Maharashtra module case. The arrest was made at his residence in Kondhwa, Pune, by the central agency today.
Dr Sarkar, an experienced medical professional with 16 years of practice, is renowned for his expertise in anesthesiology. He completed his MBBS and MD Anaesthesia from the prestigious BJ Government Medical College in Pune, Maharashtra.
During the operation, the NIA conducted thorough raids at Dr. Sarkar’s location, recovering significant evidence, the agency said. Among the seized items were electronic gadgets and documents directly linking him to the ISIS terrorist organization. The material uncovered revealed his involvement in promoting the extremist group’s violent agenda, including motivating and recruiting vulnerable youth, the central agency said.
A spokesperson from Noble Hospital expressed shock upon receiving the news of his arrest. He also informed that “Dr Sarkar was the best in anesthesiology department.”
Prior to joining Noble Hospital as a consultant few years ago, Dr. Adnan Ali Sarkar was working with Navale Medical College.
The NIA, in a statement, asserted that Dr. Sarkar’s arrest was a result of his alleged conspiracy to facilitate terrorist activities on behalf of ISIS, which operates under various aliases such as Islamic State (IS), Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Daish, Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP), ISIS Wilayat Khorasan, and Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham Khorasan (ISIS-K).
The investigation into Dr. Sarkar’s connections with the extremist organization is ongoing, with authorities closely examining the incriminating material seized during the operation, the central agency said.
