OMG Oh My God 2 Faces Certification Crisis: Revising Committee Demands 20 Cuts
Mumbai, 27 July 2023: The Revising Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly reviewed OMG 2, headlined by Akshay Kumar, and has demanded up to 20 cuts in the film. Earlier this year, the Censor Board had put a hold on the certification of OMG 2, and the revising committee was brought in as a preemptive measure to provide their input before certification. The committee has provided feedback, insisting on several visual and audio deletions.
Adding to the situation, it has been disclosed that OMG 2 will be designated as an ‘Adults Only’ film due to its focus on sex education. However, the filmmakers are not satisfied with the requested changes, expressing concerns that these modifications could compromise the essence of the film. They are also opposed to an ‘A’ certificate, as they believe that the topic of sex education should be accessible to people of all ages.
The original film, OMG Oh My God (2012), was popular among children, and certifying its sequel as ‘Adults Only’ does not sit well with the filmmakers. This has led to a deadlock between the two parties. The outcome remains uncertain, and whether they can reach a consensus before the scheduled release of OMG Oh My God 2 on August 11 remains to be seen.
As of now, Akshay Kumar and OMG 2 director Amit Rai have not responded to these reports. The film is set to release on the aforementioned date and also features Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam, with Akshay Kumar portraying the role of Lord Shiva. OMG 2 is expected to clash with Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2. It is the sequel to OMG Oh My God, released in 2012 and starred Akshay Kumar as Lord Krishna and Paresh Rawal as an atheist.
