Pune, 24th July 2023: MLA Sunil Tingre has raised serious allegations against the Maharashtra Police Megacity Cooperative Housing Society for its failure to construct houses for police personnel at Lohegaon, Pune. Speaking during the monsoon session, MLA Tingre accused the developer of misappropriation and highlighted the delayed progress of the project, which was initiated back in 2009.

The ambitious project was planned to span 117 acres with seven-storey buildings to provide homes to approximately 7,200 police personnel. However, despite the collection of funds from 4,988 members, totaling Rs 525 crore, the houses have not been constructed yet. Tingre pointed out that the land acquired for the project was not registered in the name of the institution, raising concerns about financial irregularities.

While two buildings have been completed in the project, work on two others remains stalled, leading to frustration among the police personnel waiting for their homes. MLA Tingre sought answers from the state government on the investigation into the alleged misappropriation and the timeline for building houses for the police force.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded to the concerns raised by MLA Tingre, stating that the project was primarily managed by the police themselves, with the state government providing support. However, due to various factors, including delays in approvals and the impact of the pandemic, the project faced significant challenges.

Fadnavis assured that a forensic audit would be conducted to determine if there were any financial irregularities in the project. Based on the audit findings, appropriate action would be taken against those responsible for any misconduct. He acknowledged the need to expedite the project and announced plans to call a meeting to assess the situation and explore possible solutions.

The future course of action will depend on the progress of the project and the developer’s ability to complete the work. If necessary, the government will explore legal options to ensure the completion of the project and deliver on its commitment to provide homes to the deserving police personnel.
