Pune: Alert Residents Thwart Robbery Attempt at Sinhagad Road Temple

Pune, 24th July 2023: In a commendable display of vigilance, residents of Shiv Nagar in Kirkatwadi on Sinhagad Road successfully foiled an attempted robbery at a local temple. The swift action led to the apprehension of the thief, who was trying to flee with valuable items, including an idol and puja essentials.

The thwarted robbery was executed by a 23-year-old culprit identified as Suraj Lala Yadav, a resident of Khadakwasla and originally from Chhattisgarh. The incident took place at the temple of Shri Swami Samarth, located within the premises of Amruta Vihar Society at Kirkatwadi.

At approximately 4 pm, Yadav managed to break the lock of the temple discreetly and began collecting the precious items inside a sack. However, his escape plan was interrupted when vigilant locals confronted him about his suspicious actions. In an attempt to deceive them, Yadav falsely claimed to be disposing of garbage. Unconvinced, the residents insisted on stopping him, prompting the thief to flee.

Undeterred, a group of proactive individuals, including Goutam Mane, Kiran Dasvadkar, Santosh Raikar, Shobhachand Jadhav, Manisha Bandal, Pravin Rokde, Ashok Ubale, Vilas Mate, and Dhananjay Mate, chased the culprit down. The pursuit led them from Kolhewadi Chowk to Khadakwasla village, where they successfully apprehended Yadav.

The alert citizens promptly handed him over to the Haveli police, who have since registered an FIR against Suraj Lala Yadav. Further legal actions will be taken under the guidance of IPS Anmol Mittal, the officer in charge of Haveli police station.
