23 landslide-prone and 84 flood-prone villages in Pune, administration on alert amid heavy rain alert

Pune, 19th July 2023: In view of the heavy rain alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) the district administration in Pune has instructed the officials to remain present in the respective control room set up in their areas to ensure quick response. According to officials, there are a total of 23 landslide-prone and 84 flood-prone villages in the Pune district.

 

District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh on Wednesday chaired a review meeting to check preparedness for disaster management. IMD has issued orange alert for the Pune district till July 22.

 

“All concerned authorities should ensure the smooth functioning of their control rooms. Medical officers and other staff at primary health centers should not leave their headquarters. Adequate medical supplies and medical equipment should be made available at health centers for the quick treatment of citizens in need.With an increase in dam water levels, water release from dams must be done carefully to avoid flooding downstream. Timely alerts should be provided to citizens in vulnerable areas” Deshmukh said.

 

The District Collector stressed on the need for coordinated efforts during emergencies and urged all departments to work together efficiently to handle disasters. The officials have also said that preparations have been made to remove blockages in flood-prone areas with heavy rainfall.
