Pune: Autorickshaw Driver Returns Woman’s iPhone To Police, Praised For Honesty

Mundhwa, 12th July 2023: An autorickshaw driver in Pune has received widespread acclaim for his display of honesty after he returned a passenger’s iPhone, which had been left behind in his rickshaw, with the assistance of the local police.

The incident took place in the Mundhwa-Keshavnagar area and has garnered attention for the driver’s commendable actions. The police have commended the driver, identified as Santosh Kisanrao Shinde from Mundhwa area, for resisting any temptation and returning the iPhone worth approximately Rs 35,000 to its rightful owner.

The incident took place when Santosh Shinde provided transportation to a female passenger, dropping her off near a school in the Keshavnagar area. After completing the journey, the passenger and the rickshaw driver were in the process of settling the fare. However, during this time, Shinde noticed an iPhone on the back seat of his rickshaw. Concerned about its ownership, he retraced his steps to locate the passenger but was unable to find her.

Demonstrating integrity and responsibility, Shinde promptly handed over the found mobile phone to the Mundhwa Police Station. The police initiated inquiries to identify the owner of the device and successfully contacted the woman. After verifying the ownership, the police returned the mobile phone to its rightful owner, a Hyderabad native.

The remarkable act of honesty by Santosh Kisanrao Shinde, the rickshaw driver, has earned him praise from Senior Police Inspector Vishnu Tamhane and Police Inspector (Crime) Pradeep Kakade. In recognition of his integrity and humanity, Shinde was felicitated with a gesture of appreciation, receiving a bouquet of fruits and flowers.
