Southern Command Ethics Bowl Competition 2023: Army Public School, Pune Emerges Victorious, Set to Compete at National Level

Pune, 11th July 2023: ‘Ethics Bowl’ is a collaborative yet competitive event, in which teams analyse a series of wide-ranging ethical dilemmas. Responses are judged according to the quality of a team’s reasoning and how well the team members present their case, attend to, and analyse the morally relevant features of the case and anticipate and pre-emptively respond to commentary and questions.

The Southern Command Ethics Bowl Competition 2023 hosted by APS Pune at Charak Auditorium, Command Hospital, Southern Command, showcased the brilliance of the young minds, as the participants engaged in thought-provoking presentations and discussions on ethically challenging topics. The event, which took place on 11th July 2023, drew a large audience and left everyone in awe of the students’ eloquence and analytical skills. The competition, witnessed an ultimate battle of wits and ethics between Army Public School, Bolarum, and Army Public School, Pune, the teams competing in the finals of the coveted Command level Ethics Bowl Competition.

This prestigious event was inaugurated by our honourable Chief Guest, Subeena Arora, Ex Officio Regional President AWWA (SC), in the presence of renowned judges, dignitaries and our esteemed guests.

The programme commenced with an exhilarating opening ceremony, a welcome address by Army Public School, Pune, followed by Ganesh Vandana, an elegant dance recital by our young and graceful dancers invoking the presence of the divine.

The judges, a panel of esteemed professionals and academics included Abhishek Kumar, CISSP Vice President, Regional Security Master Card, Adv. Anubha Shrivastava Sahai, reputed practicing lawyer with Bombay High Court and Supreme Court, and Anjali Banarji an eminent educationist. The moderator for the event was Suman Tiwari.

Both teams displayed an impressive command of their arguments, using logic, evidence, and rhetorical techniques to support their positions, making this event an insightful learning for all those in attendance.

The event saw a display of myriad array of emotions put forth by the young talents of Army Public School, Pune through the Grand Finale of the event, showcasing the glimpses of the two sides of the coin called life – the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly, the strong and the weak, success and failure and very beautifully reminding us not to forget the existence of a silver lining behind every cloud.

The competition was an extremely engaging battle of intellect and wits lasting almost 3 hours. It was indeed a difficult decision for the judges to select the winner as both the teams were nearly at par in confirming their facts and providing irrefutable explanations for every ethical question posed to them. After a gruelling session of arguments and cross-examinations, Army Public School, Pune, emerged victorious, earning the coveted title of the victor of the Command level Ethics Bowl Competition. The team will now represent Southern Command at National Level Ethics Bowl Competition, to be held in Delhi. Their ability to present compelling arguments and dismantle their opponents’ positions impressed both the judges and the audience.

The event culminated with the vote of thanks proposed by the Principal of Army Public School Pune, Anita Sharma. This grand occasion came to its closure with an inspiring and motivating message by Subeena Arora, esteemed Chief Guest for the day, where she applauded the efforts of both the teams and the organisers. She also wished the team luck for the upcoming National Level Ethics Bowl Competition.

The Command Level Ethics Bowl competition was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on all those who witnessed the power of persuasive arguments and the art of intellectual discourse. The event not only showcased the participants’ talent but also emphasized the crucial role of debate and discussions in shaping informed and responsible citizens of tomorrow.
