Pune: Woman Injured In Two-Wheeler Accident As Sewer Chamber Collapses On Prabhat Road, BJP Workers Protest
Prabhat Road, 23rd June 2023: A woman riding a two-wheeler met with an accident when a sewer chamber on Prabhat Road collapsed, just a month after the road had been freshly asphalted. The incident prompted BJP workers to stage a protest against the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
During the recent road asphalting undertaken by the Pune Municipal Corporation, it appears that the chamber of drainage and rain gutters was not properly aligned with the road surface, resulting in the formation of a significant pit. This pit has become a hazard, causing collisions and accidents among vehicles. Drivers, in an attempt to avoid the chamber, have been driving recklessly.
The road had been tarred by the municipal corporation only a month ago. Prior to the asphalting, a sewage channel was laid along this road. Complaints were lodged in the past few days regarding the deteriorating condition of the chamber lid, but unfortunately, the administration paid little attention to the matter. Tragically, this afternoon, a woman on a two-wheeler crashed into the chamber in front of Hotel Laxman on Prabhat Street.
As a response to this incident, BJP workers took to the streets and initiated a protest. Sunil Pande, a prominent member, warned that he would commence a hunger strike until the municipal chamber was repaired. In light of the mounting pressure, the administration finally acknowledged the issue and commenced repair work on the chamber in the evening.
Executive Engineer Dinkar Gojare provided some insight into the cause of the collapse, stating, “The misalignment of the chamber lid may have been caused by uneven brickwork beneath it.”
Repair work on the chamber has now begun and efforts are underway to rectify the situation promptly.
