Pune Customs Commissionerate Disposes of 1033 Kilograms Seized Drugs in Anti-Drug Campaign

Pune, 19th June 2023: As part of the Government of India’s commitment to a “Drug Free India” and in anticipation of the upcoming United Nations’ “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on June 26th, the Pune Customs Commissionerate has successfully disposed of 1,033 kilograms of illicit drugs.
The disposal took place at the premises of M/s Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited in MIDC, Ranjangaon, Pune, under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee and Commissioner of Customs, Yashodhan Wanage.
These substantial seizures were made by the dedicated Narcotics Cell of the Pune Customs Commissionerate, which has jurisdiction over several districts including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. In the course of nine different cases, a total of 19 traffickers were apprehended and are currently in judicial custody.
The disposal of drugs seized during anti-drug operations is a routine procedure carried out by Drug Law Enforcement Agencies (DLEAs) in adherence to established protocols. The objective of this exercise was to send a clear message to those involved in drug trafficking that such activities will not be tolerated.
In addition to these efforts, Pune Customs is actively engaged in raising awareness about drug abuse in society. The Commissionerate has organized various outreach programs in schools and colleges throughout Pune. These initiatives have garnered support from popular celebrities and sports personalities, further enhancing their impact.
