Looters Took Advantage Of Overturned Tanker On Pune-Ahmednagar Road
Viman Nagar, 14th June 2023: A major traffic snarl ensued on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road yesterday when a tanker carrying 30 tonnes of oil overturned and collided with a divider near Chandannagar Chowk. The incident caused a complete closure of the road from Viman Nagar to Kharadi bypass for over several hours on Tuesday morning, creating a backlog of vehicles stretching for several kilometers.
According to the police, the accident occurred when the tanker driver swerved to avoid colliding with a car that had overtaken from the left lane at a high speed. The resulting congestion was so severe that it brought traffic to a standstill, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
In a shocking turn of events, local residents took advantage of the chaos and descended upon the scene to loot the oil spilling from the overturned tanker. The situation became so frenzied that even rescue operations were hindered by the plundering mob.
The tanker was transporting the oil from Mumbai to Latur. The accident occurred on a straight stretch of the road, which also serves as a route for the Bus Rapid Transit System.
