Tempo Transporting Illegal Gutkha Worth Rs 70 Lakh From Karnataka To Pune Seized, Two Arrested

Pune, 27th May 2023: Police have seized goods worth Rs 70 lakh from a tempo transporting illegal Gutkha from Karnataka towards Pune. Two people were arrested by the police. This action was taken by the Rajgad police in the Pune Rural Police area on Friday (26th May).

The names of the arrested accused are Namdev Madhukar Lavte (28) and Chetan Dattatray Khandekar (19), both residents of Nizampur, taluka Sangola, District Solapur.

According to the information given by the police, a red-coloured Eicher Tempo was coming towards Pune loaded with Gutkha from Karnataka. When this tempo came within Rajgarh police station limits, the police tried to stop it for questioning. However, the driver ran towards Pune without stopping the tempo. After that, the police blocked the vehicle at Khedshivapur toll road and caught them.

After the Tempo was caught, during interrogation, Vimal Panamasala, worth Rs 70 lakh, was recovered. After that, the police arrested two persons and seized the tempo.

Along with Namdev and Chetan, Shakir Nisarali Matti, a resident of Bijapur, Karnataka, and Saddam Mehbub Kotwal, a resident of Mongoli, Bijapur, Karnataka, were also involved.

In this regard, Rajgarh Police has registered a case under IPC Sections 328, 188, 272, 273, and 34 of the Food Safety Act. Rajgad police are investigating the matter further.
