Pune, 24th May 2023: Three junior engineers have been found guilty by an investigation committee for securing jobs through the submission of fake experience documents during the recruitment process conducted by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The municipal corporation has initiated the procedure to terminate their employment, which has been approved by Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar.

“We have received complaints regarding certain selected candidates in the Junior Engineer recruitment process. The inquiry committee has submitted its report, confirming the attachment of fake experience certificates. Notice will be issued to these candidates prior to their dismissal, and further action will be taken accordingly,” stated Vikram Kumar, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation.

Last year, the PMC filled 448 positions, including 135 seats for junior engineers, attracting over 12,000 applications. Candidates who made it to the merit list based on their performance in the online examination were invited for document verification. The process required the submission of eleven types of documents, including Form 16, bank statements, pay slips, experience certificates, and PF numbers as evidence of three years of experience.

Previously, allegations were raised concerning the forgery of pay slips and experience certificates. Some individuals had also concealed their engineering degrees while securing jobs based on engineering diplomas. Proof of experience was furnished by working full-time in another city while pursuing an engineering degree in a different city. Complaints, along with supporting evidence, were lodged with the concerned department, and a petition was filed in the High Court.

In response, the Municipal Commissioner appointed an inquiry committee comprised of three officers: Deputy Commissioner of General Administration Department Sachin Ithape, City Engineer Prashant Waghmare, and Chief Auditor Amrish Galinde. Approximately 50 individuals had their documents verified during this process. While the verification was underway, 5 to 6 candidates voluntarily left their positions due to personal reasons.

The scrutiny of documents for the remaining candidates was ongoing. The administration had previously stated that the inquiry committee’s report would be submitted in May. After reviewing the report, the commissioner approved its findings.
