Pune: Teeanger Boy Feared Drowned In Khadakwasla Dam Canal, Search Operation On To Trace Him

Khadakwasla, 22nd May 2023: A teenage boy lost his life after drowning in a canal while attempting to wash his face. The search for the young victim, identified as 16-year-old Shahid Allauddin Barote from Yerawada, is currently underway by the fire brigade of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

This unfortunate incident comes merely a week after another individual, Zubair Ismail Shaikh (26), tragically drowned at the same location. The recurring nature of such incidents has brought the issue of security and safety measures to the forefront.

According to eyewitness accounts, Shahid Barote had accompanied his friends on a trip to Sinhagad earlier in the day. On their return journey, the scorching heat prompted the group of four to halt near the canal behind Khadakwasla Dam in order to freshen up. While the boys were in the midst of washing their faces, Shahid lost his balance and plunged into the canal waters. The forceful current swiftly engulfed him, leaving no trace within moments.

The distress cries of Shahid’s companions immediately drew the attention of nearby individuals, who rushed to their aid. Police Constable Sharad Chavan and Home Guard Aniket Chorghe promptly arrived at the scene under the guidance of Police Inspector Sachin Wangde from Haveli Police Station

Under the guidance of PMRDA Divisional Fire Officer Sujit Patil, a team comprising jawans Kishore Kalbhor, Suraj Mane, Yogesh Mynale, Pankaj Mali, and Akshay Tambe have launched a rigorous search operation to locate Shahid.
