Pune: Bus Collides With Six Vehicles Due To Brake Failure; One Person Dead

Pune, 22nd May 2023: A terrible accident occurred when a speeding travel bus hit six oncoming vehicles, killing one on the spot. Meanwhile, five others have been seriously injured and one of them is in critical condition. The incident took place on NIBM to Kadnagar road in the Undri area on Sunday (21st May) at around 7.30 pm.

Prashant Bhanudas Ghemud (37), a resident of Badhenagar, Kondhwa Khurd died on the spot in this accident. Rickshaw driver Madhu Kuwar, passenger Alistair Merchant in the rickshaw, Ismail Syed in the freight tempo, and Rafiq Deshmukh, a resident of lane no 3, Syednagar, Hadapsar were seriously injured. A woman’s condition is critical and reportedly, she is being treated at Sassoon Hospital.

The Kondhwa police have detained the bus driver Mainuddin Mehboob Sheikh (42), a resident of Nana Peth, Camp Chowk, Pune.

According to the information given by Senior Police Inspector Santosh Sonwane, the brake of the bus failed near Y Junction on the ramp opposite Orchid Palace on the NIBM to Kadnagar road. Due to this, the bus took a speed from the ramp. The bus rammed into six incoming vehicles, killing one biker on the spot. Other injured are undergoing treatment at Sassoon and private hospitals.

A tempo, a rickshaw, and a two-wheeler along with three cars have been badly damaged in this accident. The cars of Mohsin Shaikh, a resident of old Modikhana, Camp, Nikhil Bakshi, a resident of Nyati Hospital Society, and Rajesh Jedial, a resident of Raheja Vista Society were damaged. Jedipal is also slightly injured.
