Construction of Sinhagad Road Flyover Stalled Over Pune Metro Pillar Placement

Pune, 21st May 2023: The construction of the flyover on Sinhagad Road by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) faces a potential hurdle if the pillars for the metro station are not erected at six designated locations where the flyover ramps are situated. The Municipal Corporation has been diligently following up for the pillars to be erected, but the progress has hit a standstill as the corporation has not yet received the necessary maps for the construction.

Mahametro has assured that joint site inspections will be conducted by officials from both entities, and the required maps will be provided promptly.

With the aim of alleviating traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road, the PMC initiated the construction of a flyover stretching from Rajaram Bridge to Funtime Theatre. The project is set to be completed by 2025. Concurrently, Mahametro has proposed a metro project for Sinhagad Road, connecting Khadakwasla to Hadapsar-Kharadi. The Detailed Project Plan (DPR) has been submitted to the Municipal Corporation and is currently awaiting approval from the Standing Committee. Simultaneously, progress on the flyover construction is underway.

The flyover consists of three ramps in the Rajaram Bridge area and three ramps each near Funtime Theatre, Manikbaug, and Vitthalwadi. The metro station pillars are planned to be erected at the termination points of these ramps. Recognizing that the presence of the flyover ramps could impede future metro work, discussions have been ongoing between the Municipal Corporation and Mahametro for the past few months regarding the construction of the metro pillars. An online meeting was also held to address the matter, but no significant progress has been made thus far.

However, to expedite the process, officials from the municipality and Mahametro recently conducted a site inspection on Wednesday (17th May). Following the inspection, Mahametro will prepare the necessary maps and plans for the pillars. In the meantime, the Municipal Corporation continues to make progress on the construction of the flyover pillars. Municipal officials express optimism that once the maps are provided by Mahametro, the work can commence smoothly.

The project entails the construction of 31 pillars at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crores.

According to Mahametro, the municipality will erect the metro station pillars at the designated locations during the flyover construction. The recent site inspection has paved the way for the timely provision of maps to the municipality.
