Pune, 20th May 2023: Disturbing revelations have emerged surrounding the fraudulent activities of cyber criminals who deceived a computer engineer, causing him a staggering loss of Rs 9.75 lakh.

The unsuspecting engineer, seeking employment opportunities, became the target of these nefarious individuals, leading to a case being registered against them under the Information Technology Act at Chandannagar Police Station, Pune.

Having been actively searching for a job, the engineer received a message from the criminals, promising an enticing work-from-home opportunity. The swindlers lured the engineer by presenting an illusionary scenario wherein monetary compensation would be provided for garnering likes on social media advertisements, audio, and video content. Initially, the fraudsters played their part convincingly, even providing a refund to gain the victim’s trust. Subsequently, they enticed the engineer to invest additional funds into the online venture, promising lucrative returns.

Trusting the deceitful promises, the engineer deposited a total of Rs 9.75 lakh in various transactions into the designated bank account provided by the criminals. However, once the money was transferred, the perpetrators vanished into thin air, leaving the engineer in dire straits. Their mobile numbers were promptly found to be switched off, adding to the engineer’s realization that he had fallen victim to an elaborate scam.

Police Inspector Jagannath Jankar is investigating the case.
