Pune, 18th May 2023: For Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) routes started under Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), there will be a circulation deficit of Rs 188 crores as PMRDA’s share.

Earlier, the government had given the responsibility of circulation deficit to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

In the last few years, 450 daily rounds of PMPML are being conducted within the PMRDA limits. Also, because of these long distances, the PMPML had to bear a circulation deficit. Managing Director and President Omprakash Bakoria had demanded that PMRDA should pay the operating deficit in the review meeting with the Guardian Minister.

Subsequently, the PMPML sought a deficit of Rs 188 crore by sending information about the circulation within PMRDA limits. This fund has been approved in the budget of PMRDA 2022-23. However, while giving this approval, it is mentioned that this amount will be paid once, so there is a doubt whether it will be received again in the future or not.

After the establishment of PMPML, the current account deficit has decreased for the first time. The PMPML for the financial year 2021-22 had received an income of Rs 372 crore. Whereas, the expenditure was Rs 1,009 crores so the current deficit went up to Rs 718 crores. Therefore, there was a doubt that this deficit will increase this year as well.

However, Omprakash Bakoria made special efforts for revenue growth and passenger-centric service, along with cost containment. It has had positive results and the income of PMPML has doubled to Rs 662 crores. While the annual expenditure has increased by 20 per cent and expenditure has gone up to Rs 1,273 crores.

As a result, the current account deficit has been reduced by about Rs 108 crores. However, now PMPML’s journey towards profit will start as it will get a booster fund of Rs 188 crores from PMRDA. Also, as the share of the operating deficit of the municipal corporation will also decrease, the municipal corporation will get relief.
