Deccan, 17th May 2023: The ongoing standoff between the 2020 batch of students and the administration of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Law College Road, has escalated as the students have initiated an indefinite hunger strike until their demands are met.

The batch has outlined three key demands that they believe are crucial for their academic progress and fair treatment.

Firstly, the students are protesting against the expulsion of a fellow student based on attendance. They assert that no student should be expelled solely on the grounds of attendance, and specifically in this case, the student who was expelled and later re-admitted as a supernumerary student in the 2021 batch should be allowed to continue as a regular student in the 2020 batch.

Secondly, the students are calling for the revocation of a proctor notice that was issued to the entire batch. This notice has disrupted their academic activities since April 10th, and they believe it to be unjustified. They demand that the proctor notice be withdrawn immediately.

Lastly, the 2020 batch insists that their third-semester classes should commence from the beginning once the protest concludes. They argue that starting the classes from scratch will ensure that they receive a complete and comprehensive education, and they are determined to see this demand fulfilled.

The students have taken a bold step by initiating an indefinite hunger strike to draw attention to their demands and put pressure on the administration to address their grievances. It remains to be seen how the administration will respond to these protests and whether they will engage in negotiations to resolve the impasse.
