Pimpri, 16th May 2023: The distance of 26 km of the canal to bring sanctioned water from Bhama Askhed and Andra Dam is not much. The said work should be completed within a year. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis suggested to the Divisional Commissioner and Collector on Monday (May 15) that the land acquisition of the necessary land should be done within a month and the land should be handed over to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).

Fadnavis performed the groundbreaking ceremony of various works like PCMC’s Water Purification Center at Chikhli, Pump House at Nighoje on Indrayani River, Planetarium Project at Chinchwad, and along with the inauguration of GD Madgulkar Theatre in Akurdi.

Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, MP Shrirang Barane, MLA Mahesh Landge, Ashwini Jagtap, Uma Khapare, Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal, Additional Commissioner Jitendra Wagh, Pradeep Jambhale, Ulhas Jagtap, Sumitra Madgulkar were present on the occasion.

Fadnavis said that Pimpri-Chinchwad is a fast-growing city. Water supply, sewage drainage, and proper waste disposal are important as a city grows. 267 MLD water is reserved for the city from two dams, Andra and Bhama Askhed.

It is important to see whether drinking water is properly supplied to the city, sewage is treated and waste is disposed scientifically. 100 MLD water will be lifted from Andra Dam which will solve the water problem in the city. At the same time, the growing area will not get enough water until the rest of the reserved water comes.

For that, the next phase of water channels is important and land has to be acquired for the 26 km water channel. In any case, the entire site should be handed over to the Municipal Corporation within one month. If there is any problem, a meeting will be held with Fadnavis.

The Municipal Corporation should complete the work of laying the 26 km water pipe speedily within one year. Fadnavis also suggested that the city should get plenty of drinking water in the next two years.

Fadnavis said that wastewater should be treated and reused. The Pimpri-Chinchwad area is industrial. The Municipal Corporation has made it mandatory for the 50 km MIDC area to purchase treated water. A rule has been made that unless treated water is taken, drinking water will not be allowed for industrial use.
