Pimpri, 10th May 2023: In a startling revelation, PCMC Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale has announced that out of the 387 washing center operators in Pimpri Chinchwad city, 36 individuals will face legal action for their involvement in illegal tap connections. This disconcerting finding came to light during a survey conducted by the water supply department of the municipal corporation in response to the escalating water scarcity concerns during the summer season.

For the past three and a half years, the city has been grappling with a water supply schedule that allows for distribution every alternate day. As the summer season commenced, complaints regarding insufficient and low-pressure water supply started pouring in from various parts of the city.

In response, the Municipal Corporation issued a stern warning, stating that strict measures would be taken against those misusing drinking water for non-essential purposes, such as washing cars in washing centers or parks. Consequently, the water supply department initiated a comprehensive survey to identify the washing center operators in the city who were utilizing water illegally.

The survey revealed that out of the 387 washing centers spread across different areas of the city, 38 operators possessed legitimate commercial licenses for water consumption. Additionally, 290 operators were drawing water from bore wells, while 39 centers were operating without authorization. Immediate disconnection was enforced for the 36 individuals involved in unauthorized water tapping, and they will be subject to fines and water tax payments. Also, criminal charges will be filed against them.

Additional Commissioner Jambhale further emphasized that municipal meter inspectors neglecting their duties in monitoring such washing center operators will also face appropriate disciplinary action.
