Pune: Woman Engineer Loses Rs 24 Lakh In Online Task Scam

Pimpri Chinchwad, 9th May 2023: An engineer in the field of information technology was cheated of Rs 24 lakhs in an online scam. The incident occurred between May 2 and 5 in Punavale, and a complaint was filed by the 30-year-old victim at the Ravet police station, Pimpri Chinchwad.

The accused had contacted her on WhatsApp, lured her to complete online tasks, and promised more money and bonuses upon completion.

Initially, the complainant was paid after completing some tasks, leading her to believe that the job was legitimate. However, the accused subsequently gave her six more tasks to complete and asked her to pay money in various accounts, which amounted to Rs 24,38,070. The accused then became unresponsive, prompting the victim to realize that she had been scammed and file a complaint with the police.

Senior Police Inspector Shivaji Gaware is leading the investigation into the online scam.
